VILLAGE OF FAIRGROVE

Present: Maguire, Eurich, Farnum, Adams
Absent: Prusi, Wassa
Vacant: One
 
 
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Maguire.
 
Motion Adams second Farnum to accept the September 22, 2008 regular meeting minutes as printed.    Carried.
 
Motion Eurich second Adams to accept the 2007-08 audit report as presented by Dave Quimby of Weindlander Fitzhugh CPA.    Carried.
 
Lyle Hall stated his interest to be appointed to the vacant trustee seat. Adams instead encouraged him to file write-in papers for one of the three trustee seats on the ballot.
 
Asst. Fire Chief Childs reported that the department had 3 runs and 1 assist for September. The annual pump test will be performed on the pumper.
 
Eurich presented minutes from the October 2, 2008 police committee meeting. The committee suggested appointing an interim police chief to take over the vacated position keeping the department operating smoothly. The committee received two letters of interest; one from current part-time officer Michael Mitin and one from former police chief James Sherrod. Discussion ensued.
 
MotionEurich second Adams to appoint James Sherrod as Interim Police Chief at $14 per hour effective November 1, 2008.    Carried.
 
Correspondence was received from Northstar Bank thanking the village for its patronage.
 
The council set Halloween Hours from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. until further notice.
 
The topic of using inmates from the Tuscola County jail for work release was discussed. At this time the council felt that they would not proceed with this option.
 
Motion Adams second Eurich to pay bills of approximately $4,930.32.    Carried.
 
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
