VILLAGE OF FAIRGROVE
JUNE 21, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Duane Maguire.
Motion Prusi second Adams to accept the June 7, 2010 regular meeting minutes as printed. Carried.
Audience recognition: Gayle Sleight of the Michigan Bean Festival requested that the bean festival building be inspected prior to the festival signing a new lease. Maguire stated that an inspection would be done.
Police Chief Sherrod again urged the council to follow protocol when complaints are made about the department, stated that the council does not have the authority to conduct investigations and that the Michigan State Police should conduct those if needed.
Fire Chief Young stated that the township fire protection contracts expired 3/31/10.
Motion Adams second Prusi to extend the fire protection contracts for Fairgrove, Gilford and Juniata Townships for a three year time period of 4/1/10-3/31/13 at $600 per section. 4 Yea 2 Nay. Carried.
MotionPrusi second Hall to purchase badges for the eight Firefighter I & II graduates from The Workwear/Schoolwear Store for $472. 5 Yea 1 Nay Carried.
Correspondence was received from Akron-Fairgrove School District boy’s basketball coach Adam Moore requesting donations for equipment. The clerk reminded the council that the village can not make donations of that nature but could make a personal donation if they chose.
MotionPrusi second Hall to appoint Timothy Ball as a regular member of the Zoning Board of Appeals moving him from his current alternate position. Carried.
The clerk reminded the council that they needed to respond to the recommendations by the liability insurance risk management section with plans of action. The 2010 taxable value is $8,535,558 which is a decrease of 3.28% from last year and the millage rate is 11.044 which is the same as last year. For 2009 forty-seven unpaid sewer properties totaling $9,160.37 were added to the tax roll.
The clerk informed the council that Tuscola County is changing its software provider for taxes and equalization. If the village opts to change its software the prorated cost would be $800. The council requested that the clerk find out when the money would be paid so that a decision can be reached by the 10/1/10 deadline.
The village’s attorney firm provided information on the medical marijuana issue. The council will address the issue at the 7/12/10 council meeting when village attorney Gary Howell will be present.
Motion Prusi second Eurich to pay bills of approximately $11,305.24. Carried.
