Guests: Police Chief James Sherrod, Fire Chief Doug Young, Linal Baur, Adam Sayles, Fred Ahrens, Steve Young, Todd Humpert, Ron Thomas
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Duane Maguire.
Motion Eurich second Ahrens to accept the February 15, 2010 regular meeting minutes as printed. Carried.
Ron Thomas requested approval for car hops to be held in front of his restaurant on various dates. The council had no objection.
Fire Chief Young reported that there were 3 assists for February.
Motion Farnum second Ahrens to allow the fire department to purchase an infrared camera for approximately $5,000.
Motion withdrawn with consent.
Motion Ahrens second Farnum to send Doug Young, Ed Marshall, Adam Sayles and Brett Ahrens to the national fire equipment convention in Indianapolis at an approximate cost of $1,000. Carried.
Motion Ahrens second Hall to approve the following fire department officers for a three (3) year term effective 4/1/10 through 3/31/13: Scott Maguire-Captain, Carl Childs-Lieutenant, Fred Ahrens-Training. Carried.
Motion Hall second Eurich to purchase two budgeted SCBA masks from Frontline for approximately $400 each. Carried.
Police Chief Sherrod gave his department’s statistics for February. He stated the new truck parking ordinance held up in court without any problems.
Michigan Bean Festival Vice-president Todd Humpert stated that a motorsports weekend will be held June 11th, 12th and 13th.
The 2010-11 Budget and Truth in Taxation Hearing began at 8:18 p.m. and concluded at 8:25 p.m.
Motion Eurich second Ahrens to adopt the 2010-11 Budget and Truth in Taxation figures as follows:
General Fund $ 212,576
Major Street Fund 53,600
Local Street Fund 48,200
Equipment Fund 49,700
Sewer Fund 97,200
Total $ 461,276
Taxes will be levied at the amount allowable by law, which currently is 12.5 mills less any Headlee Tax Amendment reductions (MCL 211.34) and 1 mill will be levied for local highway and street purposes (MCL 69.2) Carried.
The clerk informed the council of Michigan Public Act 188 which will prohibit smoking in public places and places of employment. This will take effect May 1, 2010.
Motion Eurich second Ahrens to pay bills of approximately $4,221.05. Carried.
