VILLAGE OF FAIRGROVE
JANUARY 18, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Duane Maguire.
Motion Ahrens second Eurich to accept the January 4, 2010 regular meeting minutes as printed. Carried.
Tuscola County Sheriff Teschendorf presented sheriff department statistics for 2009. He also stated how crucial the sheriff department millage was for continuing police coverage throughout the county.
Larry Decaire questioned whether the council was conducting an internal investigation of the police department as he requested at the January 4, 2010 meeting. Maguire responded that since this was an open investigation he could not comment. Michigan Bean Festival VP Todd Humpert reported that the festival is interested in obtaining old pictures, slides, and movies of the past sixty-two festivals for memorabilia purposes. He also updated the council on various ideas for this year’s festival.
Correspondence was received from the Michigan Public Service Commission regarding complaints and violations of CableMax Communications which has discontinued village cable TV operations and the Human Development Commission informing of its Walk for Warmth event on February 27, 2010.
Since the topic had been discussed at several council meetings, the clerk read a letter from village attorney Gary Howell explaining the only three situations that a council trustee’s seat may be declared vacated: a recall petition/election, a move from the village and an order by the Governor for being convicted of a crime or other serious offense.
The council informed the clerk that they no longer were interested in participating with East Michigan Council of Governments and denied invoice payment for 2009-10 membership appropriation. The council chose at this time not to contract with Tuscola County Recycling for a free monthly pick up service.
The clerk informed the council that an initial mold/allergen inspection had been performed in the municipal building with no evidence found. The council felt this inspection was adequate and would not proceed further.
Motion Adams second Eurich to pay bills of approximately $16,800.29. Carried.
