VILLAGE OF FAIRGROVE
OCTOBER 5, 2009
Present: Maguire, Eurich, Ahrens, Farnum, Hall, Adams
Absent: Prusi
Guests: Police Chief James Sherrod, Fire Chief Doug Young, Bob Parsell, Steve Young, Donnie Englehart, Fern Young, Todd Humpert, Gayle Sleight, Larry DeCaire
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Maguire.
Motion Adams second Ahrens to accept the September 14, 2009 regular meeting minutes as printed. Carried.
DeCaire spoke against restricting or prohibiting semi-truck parking. Michigan Bean Festival President Gayle Sleight and Vice-President Todd Humpert presented ideas for next year’s festival. Friday October 30th they will be having a haunted room in the bean festival building and will also have hayrides.
Fire Chief Young reported that there were 3 runs and 1 assist for September.
Motion Adams second Hall to approve Christopher Hall and Antoine LaPratt as probationary firefighters pending positive physicals. Carried.
In response to a question brought by a resident, the council stated that the village does not do private work for residents so would not allow the DPW to replace driveway tubing.
Administration Committee member Adams reported that they met to review a complaint filed against Zoning Administrator Wally Prusi. The committee found no grounds for action and neither did the council. The clerk will respond to the complainant.
Police Chief Sherrod presented his department’s statistics for September. The council was notified that the chief will be on medical leave for approximately two months this winter.
Motion Hall second Ahrens to hire David Kline as a temporary part-time police officer at $10.00 per hour. Carried.
Correspondence was received from Tuscola Area Airport Authority informing of an open house on October 15, 2009.
Since the council voted previously to have a new zoning ordinance prepared for $8400 the clerk was instructed to sign the contract from village attorney Gary Howell.
Motion Adams second Ahrens to adopt Truck Parking Ordinance No. 59, which will take effect October 25, 2009. 5 Yea 1 Nay Carried.
Halloween hours were set for 6:30-8:00 p.m. on October 31st.
Motion Adams second Ahrens to pay bills of approximately $16,304.08. Carried.
