FAIRGROVE FIRE BOARD MINUTES
MAY 29, 2013
PRESENT: T. Wassa, T. Humpert, M. Couture, D. Young, L. Baur, K. Aeder, M. Day, K. Goodchild, D. Hadeway, N. Keyes, J. McQuillan
Fire Committee Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
Discussion was held regarding the Fire Service Agreement as it was revised by the Village attorney. It was agreed by all to remove Paragraph #6 of the agreement as the Village is insured 100% for any damage or loss of Fire Equipment. The Fire Equipment Agreement for the 2013 Kenworth Fire Truck was reviewed and questions answered.
Discussion was held regarding DTE billing issues and the county’s attempts to negotiate an approved rate with DTE going forward. J. McQuillan stated the Public Service Commission has not established rates or a two-hour free response window for fire departments.
J. McQuillan stated there is a Fire Insurance Withholding Act with a registry in Lansing. Once you are a registered participant, insurance companies will send 25% of insurance proceeds from an insured’s loss with a current max of $7,800 that the village would then hold for a time in a separate bank account while the owner rebuilds or demolishes. If not done in a specified time, the funds can be used to defray the costs of demolition if the owner does not take care of it.
D. Young stated that Mr. Altizer has moved and the home will be demolished. The Powell home is still pending with insurance.
As there was no other business, meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Melissa Couture
Fairgrove Village Clerk
