The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Maguire.

Fire Chief Young reported that the department had one run and 2 assists for October.

Police Chief Sherrod presented the monthly statistics for October. He inquired whether his department could respond to occurrences at the high school as requested by Akron-Fairgrove School Superintendent Joe Candela and the council informed him that he could respond if sent by Central Dispatch.

Motion Wassa second Adams to hire Timothy G. Burnside as a part-time police officer at $10 per hour effective immediately.    Carried.

Adams expressed concern that it was getting too late in the year for the Shreeves Road paving project. DPW employee Englehart stated that Saginaw Asphalt said paving could still occur with no problems, but that they suggested that we not pulverize Shreeves Road going westerly from Main Street and make two changes going easterly. The council stated that they felt the road should be pulverized.

MotionAdams second Eurich to adjust the contract with Saginaw Asphalt Paving and add ½” bituminous (making a total of 2” bituminous overlay) on Shreeves Road from the railroad tracks easterly to village limits and to eliminate the 1 ½” bituminous overlay on Shreeves Road from Main Street easterly to the railroad tracks with the stipulation that the contract amount remain the same.    Carried.

Correspondence was received from MDOT informing of their “Adopt-A-Landscape” program and Grant Goetschy resigning as a village police officer effective November 1, 2008.

Thomas Wassa, former police chief, was presented a letter of recommendation from President Maguire.

President Maguire stated that MMR would donate as many time clocks as necessary to the village, therefore not using any of the village’s budgeted monies. Pros and cons of employee time clock usage was discussed and the council decided not to proceed with time clock installation at this time.

Motion Wassa second Eurich to have all new employees obtain physicals in the fire, police and public works departments at the village’s cost.    Carried.

Motion Adams second Wassa to pay bills of approximately $6,531.88.    Carried.

Meeting adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
