VILLAGE OF FAIRGROVE
August 4, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Maguire.
Motion Prusi second Eurich to accept the July 7, 2008 regular meeting minutes as printed. Carried.
Carl Aldrich stated that he had water in his basement; he was referred to the DPW. Steve Young suggested that a used bicycle might be beneficial for the police department; Chief Wassa informed him that a 40-hour certification training course was required before an officer can use a bicycle.
Fire Chief Young reported the department had 1 run and 2 assists for July. The department is purchasing a 12’ x 16’ building to be placed behind the building. A car wash will be held on August 30th and a pancake breakfast on August 31st.
Police Chief Wassa reported that he is still in need of an additional part-time officer in order to have the department meet the 20-hour per week requirement. He would like to purchase security cameras for the downtown area with monies not spent from last year’s budget. The council told him to bring back actual quotes not exceeding $5,000.
Correspondence was received from Tuscola County Economic Development Corporation showing statistics from 2007-08 and requesting the 2008-09 budget allocation.
MotionWassa second Prusi to allow the property owner at 5174 W Center Street to dis-connect from the sanitary sewer system as the house had been damaged and would not be replaced. Carried.
The council had advertised for sealed bids on two lots with a minimum bid of $3,500 on each lot. One bid was received for the lot at 5020 W Center from Diana Ball for $555. One bid was received for Hillcrest Subdivision Lot 1 from Brenda Wojt for $1,500. The council tabled any action on the bids until the September 8, 2008 council meeting.
Motion Prusi second Eurich to invest $400,000 at Northstar Bank with the interest rates quoted if Chemical Bank does not meet or beat the rates when the CD’s come due on August 15th. Carried.
Motion Prusi second Eurich to pay bills of approximately $18,789.14. Carried.
